The Role;

The Trade Compliance Specialist EMEA position is to support the International Trade Compliance & Logistics Manager as part of the International Trade Compliance & Logistics Team in insuring that the importing, exporting, supply chain security activities of Garmin within EMEA comply with all local governmental laws and regulations.

You will be expected to evaluate import and export activities, recommend process efficiency measures and ensure these comply with business but also regulatory requirements. These activity reviews may be requested by other members of the business or sometimes may require initiating yourself.

In addition, support and attend regular compliance reviews and assist in developing, documenting and implementing customized import, export controls and supply chain security compliance training programs for internal and external stakeholders within the region.

Key Duties;

  • Ensure the daily team activities comply with policies and procedures compliant with import, export and supply chain security laws and regulations. These activities include Denied Party Lists (DPL) and Bonded Warehouse.
  • To coordinate the Direct Ship programme in consultation with the dedicated carrier, to ensure timely clearance and integrated export procedures are implemented. Optimise cost effectiveness by choosing the most advantageous shipping method. (there could be one direct shipment every 6 months)
  • Accurate use of the Oracle ERP system and the Ricardo Duty Management system to ensure Customs integrity is constantly maintained.
  • Carry out Ricardo Month End Processing within the timescales set down by HMRC.
  • Monthly update the commodity code lists with Ricardo to reflect HMRC changes.
  • Carry out regular bonded warehouse stock controls vs. Oracle stock levels.
  • Maintain good working relationships and cooperate actively with internal and external customers and business partners as well as HMRC and government agencies to execute import and export best practices.
  • To accurately classify new products with the correct Harmonised Tariff Code (HTS) by using the Integrated Tariff of HMRC or Business Link.
  • Working closely with Finance and Sales Admin teams to maintain process and procedures integrity and to keep track of archived shipping and customs documentation for customs and financial audit trail purposes.
  • Taking part and support external periodic reviews, audits and assessments of corporate and supply chain security activities. Carry out regular internal customs audit report as required by AEO status.
  • Work closely with the Global Compliance Team on projects and resolve shipment queries that relate to customs issues.
  • Working pro-actively by, taking part in any new customs and supply chain initiatives (AEO, CFSP, Denied party list, Export Licenses).
  • Support other global and internal Supply Chain team activities (Oracle regular and periodic internal Inventory controls, monitoring, receiving and provide support with inquiries regarding incoming receipts from 3rd party suppliers on Oracle)
  • Keeping up to date on new UK and EU customs procedures and international trade developments. Participate in training to maintain knowledge of specialized information and identify any regulation or industry changes affecting company business.


  • General knowledge and experience with import/export procedures would be advantageous
  • General working knowledge of Oracle or similar ERP Application
