Director, DOT Regulatory Compliance

Reporting to the Vice President, Fleet Operations and Compliance, this role oversees all aspects of development, implementation, standardization, and management of a sustainable DOT compliance program. The Director is the subject matter expert on all things related to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and continually evaluates Aramark’s practices, procedures, assets, and facilities to assess risk and adherence with applicable regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish a companywide DOT compliance program that ensures Aramark’s fleet is always operating in compliance with all local, state, and federal motor vehicle regulations.
  • Responsible for Department of Transportation (DOT) & National Safety Code (NSC) compliance for driver qualification, hours of service including ELDs, DOT drug & alcohol requirements and testing, vehicle maintenance including federal annual inspection, DVIRs and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Develop commercial fleet maintenance policies and systems to support programs that will improve fleet operation and driver performance.
  • Support and develop DOT vehicle maintenance compliance program for 5+ internal maintenance shops including performing level one inspections.
  • Serve as the DOT regulatory compliance & Canadian Ministry subject matter expert for field operations, management and senior leadership.
  • Represent Aramark in state & DOT compliance reviews by the Department of Transportation and Canadian Ministry.
  • Ensure all commercial accidents/incidents are investigated in a timely and accurate fashion and are documented properly.
  • Manage the relationship between Aramark and its suppliers of DOT related services to streamline processes, eliminate error, monitor performance, and identify exceptions.
  • Evaluate and enhance training for DOT & CDL programs and direct change management relative to evolution of the programs.
  • Conduct audits of all DOT and safety documents for accuracy and completeness and proactively address gaps with internal stakeholders and business partners.
  • Leverage DOT regulatory compliance expertise and industry knowledge to establish benchmark goals and enhance enterprise metrics & KPI's that monitor supplier and company performance.
  • Assure DOT drug/alcohol program is compliant with regulations including pre-employment drug screens, random drug screens, return-to-duty drug screens, post-accident drug screens.
  • Review proposed regulatory changes to Federal & State DOT regulations and Canadian Ministry to ensure that company is prepared to comply with new requirements without experiencing business interruption.
  • Review all incoming driver applications to uphold minimum driver hiring standards and leverage technology platform to maintain driver qualification files for business and leadership visibility.
  • Oversee the submission and retention of all required DOT regulatory filings.
  • Obtain and review required DOT background checks.


    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
    • Minimum 10 years of direct experience in a DOT Regulatory Compliance role is required.  
    • Advanced knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Canadian Ministry.
    • NATMI Certification – CDS – Certified Director of Safety, preferred.
    • Expertise in the development of fleet safety policies and compliance improvement programs.
    • Accomplished in leading and working within a matrix environment, building strong cross-functional and cross-operational relationships.
    • Attention to detail and exceptional organization skills, with persistence and professionalism
    • Demonstrated experience in leading without formal authority.
    • Ability to work and think independently, possessing sound problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Responsive and client-service focused.
    • Willingly accepts additional responsibility, challenging tasks, and/or projects.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
    • Fully proficient in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams; experience with PowerPoint and Smartsheet a plus.



This position is based in Philadelphia, PA and requires a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule.
