Job Summary
The Forensic Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to sexual assault victims, conducts forensic exams and provides expert testimony when required for legal purposes
Reports to:
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
* Provides professional care to patients and provides supervision and guidance to the members of nursing staff
* Collects and identifies items needed for forensic examination
* Serves as expert caregiver for sexual assault victims, including education and nursing support
* Educate staff and provide best practices to hospital support and law enforcement agents while victim is in hospital care
* Provide expert insight and testimony for court, trial, or depositions used for legal purposes
* All other related assigned duties
Education and Experience:
* Basic Life Skills (BLS) from American Heart Association
* (BSN) Bachelor Science Nursing + 2 years of nurse practice
* Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner’s Certificate
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
* Valid nursing license issued from Texas State Board of Nursing or holds a compact state licensure
Skills and Abilities
* Comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards and practices in accordance with nursing scope and standards of practice (ANA, 2010)
* Adheres to forensic practices as guided by the International Association of Forensic Nurses
* Special interest in scientific and technical activities for understanding and responding to nursing problems and concepts
* Excellent communicator, skilled in written and verbal communications
* Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to problem solve and exercise independent judgement
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position will interact with hospital department leaders, employees, patients, and their families. This position may require attending court and meetings offsite of hospital campus
Physical Capabilities
The position is mostly sedentary and requires extended periods of time walking, sitting, and standing. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required. Talking and hearing is essential. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and observe patients

This position is subject to indoor environmental temperatures.
