Director, Business Intelligence – Research & Training Lead

This position may be based in New York, Washington DC, or Houston.

This person will manage US/Canada-focused due diligence, litigation support and other investigative matters, manage client relationships and help drive business development. For the first 2-3 months, the primary responsibility will be for developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive investigative training program for new joiners and existing staff and overseeing the use and procurement of research tools and resources.

Role tasks and responsibilities

  • Actively manage a caseload of investigations, including overseeing investigators and subcontractors and managing client relationships, and maintaining and developing a robust source and contact network.
  • Based on broad and deep knowledge of public record and open-source research investigations, as well as HUMINT gathering experience, develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive investigative training program for new joiners and existing staff. Relevant investigations include pre/post-deal due diligence, disputes support (litigation/arbitration), internal investigations, complex frauds, white collar crime, compliance-driven inquiries, threat-based investigations and strategic intelligence matters.
  • Oversee the use and procurement of new research tools and resources, including holding product demos and staff trial periods and staying abreast of new technologies and research developments relevant to team methodologies.
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance of knowledge and information clearinghouses, including of open-source research resources and sector expertise.
  • Develop and maintain business in local finance and legal markets and participate in related activities, such as speaking engagements, conferences and thought leadership.
  • Collaborate across service lines to both raise the team’s profile within the firm and understand the breadth/depth of service offerings that complement and supplement the team’s investigations.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in an analytical or relevant technical field of study
  • At least 10 years of investigative experience at a corporate investigations firm and/or within an investigations practice in an advisory firm with deep experience in the following:
  • US/Canada public record investigations
  • Social media research and analysis
  • US litigation support and other complex investigations (cross-border preferred)
  • Discreet source inquiries
  • Training
  • Case management (with respect to budgets, deadlines and written work product)
  • People management (in-house teams and subcontractors)
  • Client management
  • Deep experience with/knowledge of local markets pertaining to finance, legal and other buyers of investigative services; preference for established relationships or identified targets
  • Polished professional skills regarding people management, written/oral communication, giving/receiving feedback, team dynamics and organizational change
  • Commitment to proactively helping grow and develop a busy, thriving investigative practice

The base salary range for this position in New York City is $165,000-$175,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided per the NYC Wage Transparency Law.
