Control Risks

Control Risks’ Regulatory Risks & Investigations practice is evaluating Principal candidates to assist in the expansion of its offerings to include Construction Monitoring. The ideal candidate should have direct experience assisting clients in mitigating the risk of fraud, waste, and abuse in relation to ongoing construction projects; experience working on and managing government entity-imposed monitoring of public infrastructure projects; the ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams; and the ability to build and foster relationships with clients that result in business opportunities and engagements.

As a Principal, you will be responsible for establishing and developing client relationships, generating revenue, and leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams in all phases of the Construction Monitoring engagements. You will also be part of the practice development and strategy team for growing and expanding the Regulatory Risks & Investigations practice.

As a Principal, you will be a key member of the client development and engagement team, with obligations to grow relationships, develop new business and oversee client engagements as both a subject matter expert (SME) and project manager. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Perform business development activities, including forming and maintaining relationships with current and new contacts.
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for Construction Monitorship matters to both identify and secure client opportunities and provide value-added advice to clients.
  • Manage and oversee engagements and work product.
  • Achieve individual and team revenue and utilization targets as agreed and determined by practice leadership.
  • Build positive relationships with key stakeholders in private corporate clients and governmental agencies, including legal counsel, compliance officers and those responsible for managing and mitigating the risks in major capital construction projects.
  • Support marketing initiatives specific Construction Monitoring and other service offerings of the Regulatory Risks & Investigations practice, including attendance and participation in conferences and other events, thought leadership, and collaboration with internal teams.
  • Be responsible for commercial activities that support engagements including but not limited to pitching services, proposal writing, pricing, timekeeping and WIP management, billing, and collections.
  • Assist other practice leaders in the growth strategy for the Construction Monitoring practice, including recruiting, and developing talent and expansion of teams and services


Knowledge and experience:

  • Ten or more years in compliance, risk consulting and/or investigations roles, including five or more years of experience working in Construction Monitor-related matters.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of construction projects and the attendant risk factors.
  • Direct experience working on Construction Monitoring projects, including those involving the monitoring of major private and public sector capital construction projects
  • Previous experience in a client-facing role for a professional services firm (law firm or consulting) is preferred.
  • Proven strategic and team leadership experience
  • Experience selling and managing complex projects requiring the services of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience delivering and overseeing the related services of forensic accounting, due diligence, and data analysis in the context of Construction Monitoring and other engagements.

Qualifications and specialist skills

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; juris doctor or master’s degree or higher is preferred
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Ability to oversee teams and interact effectively with client stakeholders
  • Excellent business writing and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt and excel in complex, dynamic and high-stakes scenarios
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

  • Ability to work within a matrix organization – to deliver to the strategic BD and client needs being a senior leader in the Americas business as well as a high-profile contributor to the regional CFI leadership team

  • Ability to direct and guide teams in the conduct of business development and project work for clients
