Othram is the world’s only laboratory purpose-built to combine genome sequencing with advanced human identification applications. The laboratory, based in The Woodlands, Texas, is also the only facility in the United States or Canada offering end-to-end, in-house processing from forensic evidence to investigative leads. Over the last three years, this technology has helped law enforcement crack hundreds of cases at the local, state, and federal level, many of which had been unsolved for decades.

The Forensic DNA Analyst will join our forensic lab team onsite in a full-time capacity to perform lab-related activities for forensic casework.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Performs DNA quantitation and other QC assays
  • Performs serology and DNA extraction from multiple sources
  • Properly receives, secures, processes, and returns evidence while documenting chain-of-custody
  • Participates in the development, validation, and implementation of new analytical techniques
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Monitors and maintains laboratory supplies and reagents inventory
  • Maintains accurate records according to laboratory operating procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive information
  • Provides expert witness testimony in court

    Requirements

     

  • Bachelor’s (or its equivalent) or an advanced degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science related area and successfully completed coursework (graduate or undergraduate level) covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics and/or population genetics
  • Six months of forensic human DNA laboratory experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Physical presence at Othram’s laboratory facilities in The Woodlands, Texas during business hours, Mondays through Fridays
  • Three or more years of laboratory experience in forensics
