Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and participate in validation studies for new and modified techniques in the Forensic Genetics Laboratory in compliance with applicable authorities (QAS, SWGDAM, ANAB and supplemental documents) Troubleshoot methods.

Conducts entire spectrum of DNA analysis from sample management and processing, RNA/DNA extraction, quality analysis of reagents for performance, operation of high throughput instrumentation, and other related tasks.

Generates and analyzes data from a variety of laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation.

Performs DNA sequence data analysis, review and interpretation.

Operates and maintains laboratory instruments.

Writes validation studies and summaries.

Assists in maintaining the laboratory including ordering supplies and equipment, calibrating instruments as applicable, performing preventive maintenance, and assuring a clean and safe environment.

Trains lab employees as delegated by the Forensic Genetics Director.

Develops SOPs and implement assays according to quality standards.

Assists in ensuring the laboratory remains in compliance with the ANAB accreditation standards and the FBI Quality — Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories.

Follows rigorously all Safety, Method Manual, and Quality Assurance / Quality Control protocols.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Forensic Genetics Director or the Crime Laboratory Director.
