This position is located in the Office of Science and Technology, Laboratory Services Laboratory Services, Forensic Science Laboratory-Atlanta, GA. The primary purpose of this position is planning, organizing and maintaining the laboratory???s forensic evidence control systems.

Duties:

As an Evidence Control Specialist, GS-301-07 your typical work assignments may include: Assist in managing and administering forensic evidence control system. Examine forensic evidence received to determine if the evidence is accompanied by the appropriate forms and documentation. Ensure chain of custody is strictly maintained for each piece of evidence. Control access to forensic evidence to ensure that it is not compromised or altered. Make entries into the laboratory information management system (LIMS).

Qualifications:

To qualify for GS-07, starting salary is $47,216, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-05. GS-07: You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties: Assisting with analyzing and examining forensic evidence received to determine if the evidence is accompanied by the appropriate forms and documentation and; Assisting professional staff members and administrative personnel in accessing and maintaining a system of records, files and reference materials relating to scientific evidence and; Communicating effectively orally and in writing to explain evidence control procedures, present recommendations, provide instruction, and write reports. OR Completion of 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. OR A combination of graduate education and experience.
