The mission of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration’s (TIGTA) Office of Investigations is to protect the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from internal and external threats and corruption that could negatively impact the IRS’ ability to administer the nation’s tax laws. We detect and deter waste, fraud and abuse in IRS programs and operations and protect the IRS against internal misconduct and corruption as well as external attempts to corrupt or threaten it’s employees.

Duties:
This position is located at Office of the Inspector General for Tax Admin,Office of Investigations- Deputy Inspector General for Investigations. As a Lead Forensic Document Analyst, you will: Communicate agency mission to employees and integrate specific mission goals into work plans, products and services. Articulate to employees’ local assignments and/or operational projects, clearly defining deadlines to meet investigative goals without compromising professional and legal requirements. Lead the most technically challenging case problems by facilitating employee’s full use of scientific methods and forensic techniques, and assist employees with identifying viable case solutions. Identify, distribute and balance operational workload among employees based upon backlog, skill level, and specialized expertise demanded by investigative problem, monitors and adjusts workloads to address investigative priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of casework. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of employees to accomplish agency and local mission(s), and as required, train or arrange training related to strengthening individual skills or to improve the operation’s capabilities.
Qualifications:
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience performing forensic work in examining and identifying questioned documents; AND Experience conducting examinations to determine the validity and genuineness of a document. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.
