Duties:

This position is located in the following laboratories: Pleasanton, California United States Vista, California United States Chicago, Illinois United States The incumbent will perform the following duties: Serves as the laboratory’s Quality Assurance Manager who provides direct oversight and management of the laboratory’s quality system. Ensures the immediate investigation and review of analytical work. Reviews and evaluates quality system policies and procedures within the laboratory and recommends to the Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) revisions as required and implements these when approved. Oversees implementation of the laboratory quality management system, by conducting audits, investigating non-conformances, and implementing corrective or preventative action. Oversees the process of re-accreditation of the laboratory. Advises the ALD and Laboratory Director on matters pertaining to quality assurance operations and detailing significant accomplishments or problems. Develops and maintains liaison with counterparts in Federal, state, and local forensic laboratories. Oversees planning, development of requirements, and implementation of a quality assurance training program for the laboratory.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience — course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 Federal grade level in managing a component of a laboratory quality assurance program; or developing policies, programs and objectives for forensic science programs or services; or performing a full range of chemical analyses and tests on a variety of seized drug evidence to identify the composition and purity using wet laboratory procedures or advanced analytical instrumentation; and writing analytical reports on chemical analysis, stating technical findings and interpreting conclusions.
