The Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) Specialist position at ESH/BHA is responsible for augmenting and enhancing NGRI care and treatment at a State hospital. This position would collaborate and work closely with the treatment teams, the risk review board, ward Psychologist 4s and NGRI Specialist at Western State Hospital. This position engages with all aspects of the internal and external process for care and treatment (including discharge) as well as court processes for the NGRI population.
Work is performed in a hybrid environment that includes telework and moderate to low-risk environment of a state psychiatric hospital situated within the serene beauty of historic Medical Lake. This unique position plays a key role in NGRI patient community reintegration and program improvement through assessment of treatment progress, quality assurance of documentation, policy development, supporting clinical staff and teambuilding. Hiring Bonus
$7,500 bonus. ($2,500 post new employee orientation; $2,500 post-probation period; $2,500 after 1 year post-probation period). Minimum 6 month break in service for returning employees to qualify for bonus.

Work tasks include:

  • Monitor the management, progress, conditional release planning, and discharge planning for all NGRI patients.
  • Consult with the treatment team(s) and other appropriate staff regarding management decisions for NGRI patients.
  • Work closely with the treatment team(s) and the court(s) to monitor the schedules of due dates of reports and dates of hearings for forensic patients. 
  • Ensure that appropriate persons and entities are notified of hearing dates.
  • Review NGRI six-month reports in order to ensure that policies and procedures are followed.
  • Review letters to court for conditional release and unconditional release.
  • Participate in the risk review board internal to the facility which reviews privileges for forensic patients.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in NGRI programming through collaborative work with Office of Forensic Mental Health Services NGRI team and hospital staff, documentation improvement efforts, and training development

We are looking for: 

  • Professionals with a Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited school or department of psychology licensed or license eligible the state of Washington.
  • Professionals who have successfully demonstrated collaborative work experience and excellent leadership and relationship-building skills grounded in inclusiveness and respect

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and implementing individual and group interventions for individuals in a forensic, mental health, or correctional setting
