DSHS SCC Community Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2

As a Community Residential Rehabilitation Counselor, you will work as part of a team responsible for implementing strategies that contribute to successful reintegration of residents into the community. You will provide direct support and care to transitioning residents and encourage them to work towards their treatment goals.
 
 Some of what you’ll do:
 

  • Develops professional relationships with residents in the community; models effective communication skills, creates opportunities for social and therapeutic engagement, and acts as a resource for residents.
  • Conduct environment of care, resident welfare, and general support checks for residents; assist in maintaining the safety and security of living environments.
  • Provide daily support and life-skills engagement/training/coaching.
  • Provide chaperoning/escort services to approved appointments and activities.
  • Quality documentation on engagement and behaviors utilizing observation reports and tracking documents.
  • Ensure ongoing support, care, and maintenance of identified needs and services.
  • Work closely with inter-disciplinary team (both internal and external stakeholders) to provide wrap around necessary support for residents in the community.
  • Conduct/partake in skill-building/transition focused groups.
  • Monitor residents and stakeholder/community interactions, intervene to control resident’s behavior, and de-escalate interactions if needed..
  • Communicate with and assist local law enforcement and criminal justice partners.

 What we’re looking for: 
 

  • Ability to engage with diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
  • Ability to respond professionally and utilize healthy coping patterns when interfacing with challenging and uncomfortable situations that may arise.
  • Effective verbal and defensive tactics.
  • Knowledge of CPR and first responder level first aid.
  • Clear and concise writing skills; clear and concise verbal communication skills.
  • Committed staff with good attendance and strong problem-solving/solution oriented skills.

 Who should apply?
 Professionals with one of the following:

 

  • High school graduation or GED and Two (2) years of professional experience working in an institutional or community residential program for persons with sexual offending or other challenging behaviors, such as a psychiatric and forensic mental health setting or a correctional mental health program
  • Or, satisfactory completion of the Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 1 in-training plan
  • Equivalent education*/experience will also be considered

College-level coursework will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
