DSHS TIA IT Security Senior Specialist

US Government, Dept. of Social and Health Services

DSHS IT Security Senior Specialist
The Department of Social and Health Services’ (DSHS) Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) transforms lives by supporting sustainable recovery, independence, and wellness. BHA does this through funding and supporting effective prevention and intervention services for youth and families, and treatment and recovery support for youth and adults with mental health conditions.

We are seeking an IT Security Senior Specialist to join the Technology Innovation Administration (TIA) IT Security team supporting BHA. In this role, you will coordinate technical discussions between vendors, IT personnel, and non-technical business personnel, answer questions from non-technical personnel, and prepare actionable cyber security reports for use by IT personnel.

Given the size and scale of the administration, as well as the nature of the business, there is a need for senior level IT staff focused on ensuring IT security vulnerabilities are identified and quickly addressed, as well as supporting the shift to a more proactive IT Security posture. As the IT Security Senior Specialist, you will review vulnerability scans, identify appropriate mitigations, manage Security Design Reviews (SDRs), perform code reviews, conduct database scans, and other security related projects.

This is an opportunity to join a friendly and experienced team of professionals dedicated to improving processes to keep the State of Washington, DSHS, and BHA safe. Join us today in our mission to transform lives!

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
  • Inform, advise, and mentor BHA staff on the importance of maintaining compliance with IT Security standards
  • Test and validate the administration’s “readiness” to recover from various disasters by participating in the quarterly Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) tests at all BHA facilities
  • Engage in cybersecurity Incident Response Plan (IRP) activities to provide timely detection, analysis, containment, and remediation of reported security events
  • Review newly proposed software packages and in-house developed packages for security gaps, and shepherd these proposals through the System Design Review process
  • Strengthen BHA security posture through completion of activities identified to mitigate IT Security Audit findings

What we’re looking for:
Professionals with eleven years of professional/practical experience in IT systems/technology, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Data Analytics, Statistical Analysis, or Engineering.

An associate’s degree (or two years undergraduate studies) with the same focus as above AND nine years’ experience in Information Technology.

Concurrently to above experience, a minimum of three years of consultative, administrative experience in IT Security and three years of experience in a large and complex IT Security Environment.
Our Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) mission to Transform Lives requires that we come together with a sense of belonging, common purpose, shared values, and meaningful work. It is crucial to our agency’s mission that you bring an equity, anti-racism, and social justice commitment to your work with DSHS. We strive to create greater access and affirming representation of the communities we serve, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, people with physical, behavioral health, and intellectual disabilities, elders, LGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrants and refugees, and families building financial security.
