DSHS WSH Safety Manager

The Gage Center for Forensic Excellence at Western State Hospital (WSH) in Lakewood, Washington is seeking a proactive Safety Manager to develop, implement, and administer the hospital’s occupational safety and health programs.
 
Reporting directly to the Director of Certification and Accreditation, you will serve an environment where safety is crucial to our ability to transform lives. We are seeking an expert in this field to build relationships, develop the department and foster a commitment at all levels to ensure safety standards and best practices are consistent with professional expectations and regulatory requirements.
 

Some of what you’ll do:  

  • Develop, implement, and administers WSH’s occupational safety and health program to ensure all plans and programs are following regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the employee injury accident investigation process to ensure all supervisors are trained in accident investigations, and that investigations are conducted, and results responded to.
  • Participate in the Hospital’s Safety Committees to provide education, consultation and identification of risks and corrective actions.
  • Perform safety inspections of facility and works with the Quality Department, specifically the Director of Certification and Accreditation, and other key stakeholders to ensure that safety related findings are corrected and address the concern.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of staff education and development of programs to optimize staff safety. 
  • Administer the Life/Fire Safety program, including documentation of prevention activities and fire drills.
  • Ensure all job hazard assessments are completed and updated regularly per regulation.

Who should apply: 

  • Four years of professional experience in occupational safety and health programs, educational, patient, and/or workplace safety-related programs.
  • Professionals with a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education, health sciences, or an allied field.
  • Professionals with a master’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies natural science, business or public administration, education, health sciences, education, or allied field may be substituted for two years of the above professional work experience requirement.

OR
 

  • Related education/experience. Experience may qualify year-for-year for educational requirements.

  • Analyze data and formulate resulting action plans
  • Think critically
  • Knowledge of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and/or the Joint Commission standards for hospitals, as well as WISHA/OSHA regulations
