Opportunity to work in one of San Diego County’s state-of-the-art Crime Labs! 
There are immediate openings for the position of Forensic Evidence Technician with the Sheriff’s Crime Lab. This list may also be used for future vacancies.  

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $67,184 ANNUALLY. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement.

About the Position:  

Forensic Evidence Technicians are allocated only to the Sheriff’s Regional Crime Laboratory. Under the general direction of a Supervising Criminalist, this class is responsible for the identification, collection, preservation, and transportation of physical evidence from crime scene investigations and autopsies.  Incumbents perform crime scene documentation, fingerprint processing, and photography work.

Education and Experience:

Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Qualifying education/experience:  

  1. An associate of science degree from an accredited college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency and a community college certificate in Evidence Technology or equivalent, OR,
  2. One (1) year of experience in the identification, documentation, collection, preservation, and transportation of physical evidence which must include fingerprint processing, OR,
  3. Two (2) years of full-time experience as an Evidence Technician in a law enforcement agency.

Condition of Employment:

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.

Evaluation:

Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate, as the responses you provide on the supplemental application questionnaire will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
