Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Greensboro Police Department Forensic Services Division is seeking a qualified Latent Print Examiner. Primary duties are centered upon the evaluation and comparison of latent friction-ridge impressions, recovered during crime scene/evidence processing, to the known exemplar records of subjects associated with an agency investigation. Specific technical responsibilities extend to include: the receipt, documentation, evaluation, and examination of friction-ridge impressions (both unknown and known; finger, palm, and sole); comparison and evaluation of friction-ridge impression casework using the ACE-V methodology; and electronic capture/related documentation of impressions, to include digital processing techniques. This position also requires use of automated fingerprint identification systems and computerized criminal justice database resources, such as: North Carolina State AFIS, SPEX-PrintQuest, FBI NGI-AFIS and CJLeads. The Latent Print Examiner will prepare detailed written reports for all evaluation and examination activities and will provide discipline specific expert testimony in both State and Federal Courts. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: mentor and train new examiners (and others) on friction-ridge topics; develop and revise workflow procedures and technical policies as needed to ensure section operations reflect best practice standards of competent service provision; fulfill community engagement assignments (such as career presentations and student mentoring); and respond to unscheduled call-outs that present exigent position-specific matters. The Latent Print Section is accredited under ISO/IEC 17020 standards, thus all casework conducted within the section must conform to prescribed policy and procedure. The Latent Print Examiner must either currently hold, or obtain within 12 months of eligibility, certification through the International Association for Identification as a Latent Print Examiner; in addition to maintenance of IAI Certification, employees in this position are also proficiency tested in accordance with ANSI ISO/IEC 17020 requirements.
