This position performs and takes responsibility for various technical and/or clerical duties in a law enforcement agency, using various computer programs and/or operating technical equipment. Perform general responsibilities inherent to properly maintaining the office of the division where assigned. Perform lower level accounting work; maintain fingerprint files; handle receptionist duties, including multi-line phones and direct contact with the general public; maintain attendance records for vacation, sick leave, holidays, and compensatory time.

TOTAL COMPENSATION: $50,825.22 – $71,192.58 annually. Total compensation is an estimate based upon full-time base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee’s enrollment choices. 
 
The starting pay will begin at $19.09 on the pay scale, will have a pay increase after six (6) full months of employment and will have annual increases thereafter, maxing out at the top step of the pay scale.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:  Positions in this classification may function as the only or principle clerical support personnel in an office; must have the ability to relieve technical and/or administrative superiors of routine office or technical responsibilities. Positions in this class may work as part of a team; must have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Incumbents are expected to be –responsible for the flow and completion of work within their assigned unit, within general guidelines, and with full occupational levels of skill a–nd accuracy.  Incumbents must be able to use independent judgment in the application and/or choice of procedures in determining the priority of workload. Work is subject to cross-checking and/or general review.

**A validated typing test with a net score of at least 45 WPM after adjustment for errors, taken within the last 90 days, is required. The Civil Service office will be offering free typing tests by appointment only. Applicants are welcome to submit their application without the typing test and then Civil Service will contact them for scheduling. Some temporary employment agencies also offer validated typing tests. You may want to contact the agencies to confirm that they do offer validated typing tests and if they charge a fee; below is the name of an employment agency that DOES offer validated typing tests and their associated cost:

 PLEASE NOTE: All Civil Service exams, oral board interviews, or any other interview involved with this position must be conducted in-person at the applicant’s expense. No Web/Video Conference, over-the-phone, or outside testing facilities are permitted. No exceptions.

*NOTE: Most Sheriff’s Technical Assistant 2 (STA2) positions in the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office are full-time. Spokane County has one 50% (20 hours per week) STA2 position with benefits (at the 50% employee rate). This position is expected to be at 50% for 2022 and the Sheriff’s Office will work on transitioning it to a full-time employee position starting in 2023. A review of the position will occur no later than December 1, 2022. The position will be assigned to the Forensics Unit and will report to Forensics Unit supervisors. Generally, the days of work and hours for this position will occur during dayshift, three days per week.
