This position is assigned to DAC Special Operations and Intelligence Unit (SOIU) and will be based in Raleigh, NC. The Special Operations Investigative Supervisor (SOIS) is responsible for the direct line supervision of Special Operations Investigators assigned to various task forces located in the eastern part of the state of North Carolina. The SOIS organizes and manages the workflow to ensure the goals and strategies of SOIU are implemented. Responsible for daily operation of and direct involvement in all aspects of decision-making process regarding various task force operations which include assigning fugitive cases, coordinating investigations such as Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR), erroneous releases, fugitives, time entry and staff training. The position is involved in disciplinary dispute and grievance action processes when necessary and manages employee performance. The SOIS will provide operational oversight for operations conducted by SOIU such as fugitive and/or warrantless search operations, sensitive investigations involving high profile criminal or staff related investigations. This position will be involved in the North Carolina Emergency Management/ North Carolina Department of Adult Correction partnership and will play a key role in providing a state response in cases of natural disasters and adverse weather events.
The SOIS must have the ability to analyze a situation and provide an immediate solution. The SOIS must have the ability to develop a professional alliance and establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, offenders, judicial officials, federal and state law enforcement agencies, general public and co-workers. Must have the ability to express oneself clearly in oral and written forms. The SOIS must have the ability to establish an appropriate course of action to ensure completion of assigned duties within given time frames. The SOIS serves as a coach and mentor to staff within his/her unit to enhance their skills and abilities. SOIS must hold staff accountable for workload and case management. Must have the ability to demonstrate pro-social skill building and problem solving. Ability to maintain calm and rational composure when dealing with difficult situations and individuals and exhibits the ability to focus on the task at hand. Must possess the skills necessary to qualify annually with a firearm and unarmed self-defense, complete CPR annually and be indirectly exposed to O.C. Pepper Spray as part of a training exercise. Position is certified by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
