The NC Department of Justice State Crime Lab has a unique hybrid opportunity for someone passionate about Human Resources and storytelling. The selected candidate will split their time between the HR and Communications team.
We are seeking a well-organized person who is savvy with social media engagement and is willing to learn about the great work of our State Crime Lab in person and help share this work with our community. This selected candidate must have strong written and oral communications skills, pay close attention to the news and current events and have a good understanding of the public interest in a Crime Laboratory and the field of Forensic Science. The selected candidate will also help HR for the Crime Lab through recruitment and other processes.
The responsibilities of this position include:
Communications:
Partner with the Deputy Chief of Staff, Press Secretary, and State Crime Laboratory Director to find and tell stories about the State Crime Laboratory.
Learn about the Lab’s functions and subject matter experts.
Draft or develop ideas for press releases, social media engagement, videos, columns, newsletters, and other materials.
Draft materials for speakers, including the State Crime Laboratory Director, to be included in speeches and presentations for stakeholder groups, including the legislature and others
Human Resources:
Provide support for the work of the State Crime Laboratory Administrative Operations Division and the NC DOJ HR staff
Work with the Crime Lab and HR delegate to review, audit, and process the division’s organizational (OM) changes in the HRIS system.
Provide Quality Assurance to ensure the accuracy and timely entry of position data and workflows within the HRIS system.
Support for the recruitment lifecycle of positions is also needed.
- This may involve drafting postings, approving requisitions, and screening postings for Crime Lab-specific positions in the State’s Application Tracking System, NeoGov.
THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE
RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $45,675 to $62,803. Salary determination is based upon the candidate’s education and experience related to the position, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations.

The salary grade for this position is NC13 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. Please detail ALL work history including non-state service experience. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result.

- Selected candidate will undergo and must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which may take several months to complete.
